Hex Bolts Hex bolts, commonly called hex head cap screws, are bolts that contain a hexagonal head, smooth shank, and threads. The length of the threads ranges from 1" to 6", depending on the diameter and length of the bolt. The approximate thread length for each specific bolt can be found under the "Product Highlights" section. The length of hex bolts is measured from the bottom of the hex head to the end of the threads. In addition to hex bolts, we also offer tap bolts, which are hex bolts that are fully threaded.
Two flat washers and one hex nut of the same size and finish are typically needed for use with each hex bolt (sold separately). Installation requires that two wrenches be used, as one is needed to hold the hex head in place, while the other tightens the hex nut.
